Microplastics Are a Problem, but Fashion Can Help, by Catherine Salfino for The Robin Report

Microplastics Are a Problem, but Fashion Can Help, by Catherine Salfino for The Robin Report

We had the lovely opportunity of catching up with Catherina Salfino of the Robin Report to discuss our fashion impact on the world.

1) Is Andine aware of microplastic pollution that comes from petroleum-based fabrics like polyester? Does that factor into its use of natural fibers?

Andine’s mission is to celebrate women’s authenticity while elevating their sleep to street style. That is done through the exquisite selection of quality fabrics and materials by our designer, Elisabeth Weinstock. While selecting fabrics with comfort in mind, natural fibers are always a first choice. We love silky smooth or cozy and dreamlike fabrics. Additionally, at the atelier of Andine, all of our pieces are cut and sewn in house and are made to order with little overstock.

2) Does Andine use cotton because it’s a natural fiber? Are natural fibers and sustainability part of the brand’s story…?

Andine strives for quality goods made from natural fibers. We prefer to use fabrics that are as soft as butter and made 100% out of cotton. As a loungewear brand, we encourage our customers to wear our items all the time, whether they are home or out on the town, so long as they are feeling comfortable and looking chic! We thrive on producing high quality pieces that will last a long time, and natural fibers help us achieve that goal.

3) What does the brand like about working with cotton — whether it’s an Andine lounge pant, something from the bridal collection, a pajama set, etc.?

Many of our best selling products are made from cotton. Derived from plant fibers, cotton is breathable, durable and wonderfully soft to wear. From our structured Essen Blouse to a flirty Lulu Crop Tank, the cotton styles offer our customers versatility. Andine’s mantra is pushing boundaries and one way we all do that is in the way we style our clothes. Our bridal collection includes pieces from our Taormina collection made from silk and our Marseille Batiste collection made from cotton. The endless styling options for wearing a silk slip dress; styled for work with a sweater or blazer to going out for an evening with heels. Andine is a timeless brand and we want our clothes to last a lifetime.
